In a Facebook post, rail operator SMRT said it was a big night for the 26-year-old LRT line as it bid farewell to the last 1st-gen APM 100 train, supplied under Contract 801.
In early October, keen-eyed trainspotters noted that the last two trains – Train 102 and 111 – were last spotted in passenger service a month ago, according to crowdsourced trainspotting platform SGTrains Spotters, leading to speculation on their impending retirement.
SMRT said the retirement of the C801 trains, also referred to as the ECX-100s, marks a “major milestone” for the LRT line, signalling a new era of the 3rd-gen Alstom Innovia APM 300R trains, or NCX1 trains, under Contract 801B, which first launched in August 2024.
The 3rd-gen C801B trains are jointly supplied by French train maker Alstom Transport and Chinese train maker CRRC Nanjing Puzhen, with the contract awarded by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in March 2018, and the first train arrived in Singapore on Apr 16, 2022.
SMRT said the send-off of the last 1st-gen LRT train – Train 102 – was graced by the management of SMRT Trains and staff members from LTA, adding that it was a “celebration of teamwork, safety, and transformation”.
SGTrains understands that all 3rd-gen C801B trains have been delivered to Singapore, and 18 of 19 trains are running on passenger service, with the remaining one train undergoing testing and commissioning works since early October 2025.
