Teck Lee LRT station on the Punggol LRT could be opening soon, almost 19 years since the station was first built in 2005, revealed the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in response to queries by news agency CNA on Tuesday (May 7).
Teck Lee LRT station is currently the only station not in operation on the Punggol LRT line’s west loop and is infamously known for its abandoned-like and rundown state, with outdated maps displayed at the platform when LRT trains arrive and depart without doors opening.

Teck Lee LRT station on Punggol LRT could open soon
In response to queries from CNA on Tuesday, LTA said more details will be announced when they are finalised but did not disclose when the station will be opened.
LTA said the impending opening of Teck Lee LRT station is part of enhancements to public transport connectivity to the new Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) Punggol campus and to upcoming developments in Punggol, serving SIT students and “other stakeholders”.
The enhancements to public transport connectivity will also include bus route amendments.
CNA noted indications that Teck Lee LRT station “will likely open by the end of the year, in time to serve students who move into the new SIT campus”.
A post on SIT’s website indicated that the LRT station will be operational in August, and the Punggol Coast MRT station of the North East Line (NEL) will be open by the end of 2024.
However, Reddit users noted that that information has subsequently been removed following the revelation.
An SIT spokesperson responded to CNA’s queries, mentioning that the information has been removed as details “have not been finalised”.
It added that the new SIT Punggol campus will be “served by both public bus and rail options when the academic year begins in September”.
SIT’s website states that the new Punggol campus will open in phases starting in August 2024.
When Teck Lee LRT station opens later this year, it will be one of nine train stations on the rail network that will open in 2024.
Seven new MRT stations of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) stage 4 will open in June 2024, and the new Punggol Coast MRT station of NEL will open by the end of 2024.
