Mr Chee announced that seven new MRT stations for TEL4 will be commencing passenger service on Jun 23 during the budget debate of the Ministry of Transport (MOT).
It was previously reported in early January that authorities were aiming to open the TEL4 in the first half of this year.
The public can familiarise themselves with the TEL4 stations with free travel across the seven new stations during a preview event on Jun 21, from 12pm to 9pm, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in a media statement.
Improved Accessibility for Commuters in the East Coast Region
When TEL4 opens for passenger service on Jun 23, 2024, it will improve the accessibility for commuters in the East Coast region, LTA mentioned.
LTA highlighted that commuters can expect travel time savings of up to 50 per cent when using the TEL, where a Marine Parade resident travelling to Shenton Way will only take 20 minutes on the TEL, compared to 40 minutes by bus and train currently.
The opening of TEL4 will also bring 235,000 households within a 10-minute walk from an existing TEL station.
Speaking to The Straits Times, LTA said TEL train frequencies will be revised at three minutes during peak hours and six minutes at non-peak hours after TEL4 opens.
