Commuters living in the eastern part of Singapore can look forward to the fourth stage of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL4), which will be opening in 2024, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Friday (Jul 7), also giving a sneak peek of the stations interior.

The upcoming TEL4 comprises seven new MRT stations: Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap and Bayshore stations.

“We’re testing the trains and systems rigorously”

Transport Minister S Iswaran said on Friday that some of the tests being conducted for trains and systems include running them on the new tracks and the finer details such as “ensuring the train doors always open in alignment with the platform screen doors”.

“The engineers also check and re-check that all systems at the new stations work seamlessly with existing ones,” Mr Iswaran highlighted.

“These are some of our many efforts to uphold high standards of safety and reliability in our expanding rail system.”

LTA said engineers will be “meticulously testing the various systems” and that new batches of TEL trains will be put “through their paces to get them ready for debut”.

“Station construction is progressing well,” it added.
