Frequent travellers on the Sengkang LRT can look forward to improved commuter flow at the Sengkang LRT station as the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be making enhancements to the station platform for both the East and West loops of the LRT line.

As highlighted in The Rail Report published by LTA on Dec 13, 2023, the enhancement to the Sengkang LRT station platform is just one of three improvements that commuters can look forward to being implemented on the Sengkang-Punggol LRT (SPLRT) system.

LTA will be making enhancements to the Sengkang LRT station platform for both East and West loops of the LRT line to improve commuter flow during boarding and alighting.

It will be designating platforms for both the East and West loops of the LRT line, and there will be two stopping points for trains at each platform.

The Sengkang LRT station platform format currently involves each platform serving both loops in either an anti- or clockwise direction back to the Sengkang LRT station.

Commuters queueing for a West Loop train on Platform 1 or 2 will share the same platform space — demarcated through coloured lines on the floor — with other commuters queueing for an East Loop train.

Residents of Sengkang and Punggol can look forward to shorter waiting times as the line’s fleet will be boosted by 25 new 2-car trains, to be progressively delivered from 2024 onwards.

LTA had said that the new 2-car LRT trains will “progressively replace the 1-car trains, increasing passenger capacity on the SPLRT network” and will allow the SPLRT network to “meet long-term public transport demand in Sengkang and Punggol towns”.

Concurrently, the Sengkang LRT depot is being expanded to support the upcoming increase in the SPLRT fleet size, LTA highlighted.
