The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Dec 30, 2025, that it has awarded Obayashi Corporation the civil contract (Contract 115) for designing and building the new Brickland station and viaduct, valued at approximately $281 million.

LTA said the Japanese-based construction firm has an established track record in infrastructure projects, including local and overseas rail stations and tunnels.

Obayashi Corporation is also currently involved in Cross Island Line (CRL) projects, including the design and construction of Turf City station and tunnels, as well as the design and construction of tunnels between Fairways Drive and Sin Ming Walk.

The new MRT station will serve existing and future residential developments in Keat Hong estate, Bukit Batok West, Pavilion Park estate, and the Brickland district in Tengah town.

It will also serve existing educational institutions such as ITE College West, Swiss Cottage Secondary School, and St. Anthony’s Primary School.

Brickland station will be the third MRT station constructed along an existing overground MRT line, following Canberra station on the NSL and Dover station on the East-West Line (EWL).

LTA stated that significant engineering work would be required to integrate the new Brickland station into the rail network.

These include the construction of a new viaduct that will facilitate the staged diversion of train services from existing viaducts, allowing modification works to be carried out safely on the existing rail infrastructure and systems, while still maintaining train services during works.

A new crossover track would also be laid between the existing and new tracks, as well as the creation of new cripple siding, which can be used in the event of train faults, thereby “improving service recovery and resiliency along this stretch of the NSL.”

There would also be the installation of a temporary protection enclosure over some track stretches during construction, and some works would be carried out at night to ensure commuter safety.

“During construction, LTA and the appointed contractor will engage residents and relevant stakeholders, and provide regular updates on the progress of the works.

“We thank commuters and residents for their understanding and patience during the ongoing works, as we continue to expand our rail network for the benefit of our commuters,” said LTA.

LTA first announced the Brickland MRT station in the Land Transport Masterplan 2040, released in 2019, with construction works initially set to commence in 2024.
