Works on Jurong Lake District MRT station of Cross Island Line to start in Q4 2024

Construction works for Jurong Lake District (CR19) station along the second phase of the Cross Island Line (CRL) are expected to start in the fourth quarter of this year, the Land Transport Authority said on Wednesday (Jul 31).

Spanning over 50 kilometres, CRL is Singapore’s eighth MRT line, connecting major hubs such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and the Changi region.

LTA awards civil contract for design and construction of CRL Jurong Lake District station and tunnels under the Cross Island Line Phase 2

Contract CR211 for the design and construction of Jurong Lake District station and its associated tunnels for CRL2 has been awarded to KTC Civil Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd, valued at around $590 million.

LTA said KTC Civil Engineering & Construction is an established local construction firm with extensive experience in local infrastructure projects.

The firm is currently involved in the construction of CRL’s Maju (CR16) station and the Sungei Bedok (TE31/DT37) station on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) and Downtown Line (DTL).

It previously constructed the Tampines (DT32) station on the DTL and Orchard Boulevard (TE13) station on the TEL.

Jurong Lake District is currently a working name and will be finalised in the future.

Construction of the station involves deep excavation works near the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) and requires prior installation of earth-retaining and stabilising structures to ensure safety and ground stability, LTA highlighted.

“LTA and the contractors will monitor the construction works closely and implement necessary mitigation measures to ensure safe construction with minimal impact to nearby stakeholders and infrastructure.”

CRL phase 2 is approximately 15 kilometres long, comprising six underground stations, serving areas such as Sunset Way and West Coast that are currently not linked to an MRT line.

“With the improved connectivity, CRL phase 2 will shorten travel times for commuters travelling to and from the western parts of Singapore,” LTA had said.

LTA estimated that travelling times between Jurong Lake District and Pasir Ris Central will be reduced from 1 hour 15 minutes today to 55 minutes with the CRL.

Construction works for Jurong Lake District station are expected to start in the fourth quarter of this year, with CRL phase 2 targeted to commence passenger service in 2032.
