Construction works for Maju MRT station along the second phase of the Cross Island Line (CRL2) are expected to commence in the second quarter of this year, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Wednesday (Jan 31).
Fully underground and spanning over 50km across the country, the CRL is Singapore’s eighth MRT line, connecting major hubs such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi.

LTA Awards Civil Contract for Design and Construction of Maju Station and Tunnels
CR 16 Maju MRT Station
KTC Civil Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd has been awarded the civil contract CR206 valued at around $480 million for the design and construction of the Maju MRT station and its associated tunnels for the CRL.
LTA said the construction company is an established local firm with extensive experience in infrastructure projects in Singapore.
It added that the company previously constructed the Tampines MRT station of the Downtown Line (DTL) and the Orchard Boulevard MRT station of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).
The firm is currently working on the Sungei Bedok MRT station of the TEL stage 5 (TEL5) and DTL stage 3 extension (DTL3e).

Station Construction Works Are Expected To Be Challenging
LTA said Maju MRT station is an underground station located along Clementi Road and is situated near existing residential and educational infrastructure.
“The works are expected to be challenging, with the undulating terrain and mixed ground conditions at this location,” said LTA.
For safety and ground stability, LTA and the contractor will deploy earth-retaining and stabilising structures before commencing excavation and construction work.
“Traffic and utilities diversions will be carried out in phases to facilitate construction works. LTA and the contractor will monitor the works closely to ensure that they are carried out safely, and with minimal impact to the nearby stakeholders and existing structures.”
LTA will also continue to engage nature groups and other stakeholders following a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment on works near the Clementi Forest.
Such measures will include establishing a “flora and fauna monitoring and management programme” and “regular inspections of hoardings, drains and earth control measures”.
Construction works for the Maju MRT station are expected to start in the second quarter of 2024.
Shorter Travelling Times with the Cross Island Line
The CRL phase 2 is 15 kilometres long, serving new areas such as Sunset Way and West Coast that are not currently linked to an MRT line.
“With the improved connectivity, CRL phase 2 will shorten travel times for commuters travelling to and from the western parts of Singapore,” LTA had said.
Commuters can expect the CRL to reduce travelling times between the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) & Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), and Hougang Central from 65 minutes today to 35 minutes.
LTA also estimated that travelling times between Sunset Way Neighbourhood and Jurong Lake District will be reduced from 40 minutes today to 20 minutes.
The six-station CRL phase 2 is targeted to commence passenger service in 2032.
