Early Closure of Bukit Panjang LRT at 10:30pm on Fri, Sat & Sun – Mar 22 to Jun 30, 2024

Train services on the Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) will end earlier on Mar 22 to Jun 30, 2024, to provide longer engineering hours to facilitate the testing of new LRT trains and systems, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a statement on Mar 5.

In addition, LTA said the BPLRT will resume dual-loop operations on Saturdays at selected hours — 11am to 1pm and 5pm to 7pm — following enhancements to the line’s reliability that began in 2018.

LTA said longer engineering hours are needed to facilitate the testing of new LRT trains and systems on the BPLRT.

Two new 3rd-gen BPLRT trains have arrived in Singapore and will begin passenger service in the third quarter of this year, following testing and commissioning works, said LTA.

“These are among the 19 new trains which will replace the first-generation vehicles that have been in service since 1999.”

LTA said the retrofitting works to the 2nd-gen BPLRT trains, in tandem with the new Communications-based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system, are also progressing well.

“More trains are expected to complete the upgrade and re-enter passenger service later this year.”
