Eleven new MRT stations for the Thomson-East Coast Line 3 (TEL3) – bringing increased connectivity to Stevens, Orchard, Outram Park and Marina Bay MRT stations – have completed rigorous systems integration and testing activities.

Earlier this year, Transport Minister S Iswaran announced in Parliament during the Committee of Supply (COS) debate that TEL3 will open in the second half of this year.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said it has handed over 11 new MRT stations under TEL3 to SMRT Trains in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Aug 17).

It added that the rail operator will conduct operational testing over the next few months in preparation for its opening at the end of this year.

Transport Minister S Iswaran said in a Facebook post that LTA has completed testing the signalling system over the weekend.

Rail operator SMRT Trains will continue to carry out further tests to ensure all systems are operational ready before the opening, he added.

The upcoming TEL3 will give commuters better access to areas such as Great World, Maxwell and Shenton Way via the MRT network.

Transport Minister S Iswaran said during the COS debate in March that the opening of TEL3 will “connect residents in the north directly to many destinations in the city, and significantly shorten travel times”.

There are a total of 13 stations built for TEL3, but only 11 stations will open for passenger service; both Mount Pleasant and Marina South MRT stations will only open in tandem with the developments around the station.
