A Trainspotter’s Favourite Moment from NDP 2022

National Day Parade 2022: Chapter 1 - This is Our Life

We celebrated Singapore’s 57th birthday on Tuesday (Aug 9), and there were many noteworthy moments during the National Day Parade (NDP), held at The Float @ Marina Bay, which got everybody talking.

Several moments included Red Lions parachutist Third Warrant Officer (3WO) Jeffrey Heng making a rough landing at the start of the parade and secondary school teacher Azuan Tan who was captured on camera tearing up during the national anthem segment.

But our favourite moment, being a trainspotter, was during the show segment when one of our MRT stations was transformed into a dance floor.

P.S. The writer is glad to hear from Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen in a Facebook post on Wednesday that 3WO Jeffrey Heng is expected to make a full recovery and that no surgery is required.

Flash Mob Dancers Invade Marina South Pier MRT Station

The first chapter of the show segment is titled “This is Our Life” and features homegrown DJ Tinc, National University of Singapore (NUS) and TOUCH Community Services.

DJ Tinc cued the tune of HandClap by Fitz and the Tantrums, which saw the transition to an elderly man looking speechless with what he had seen on the plasma display screen.

A flash mob dance crew spewed out of an MRT train and subsequently invaded Marina South Pier MRT station on the North-South Line (NSL), drawing attention to commuters travelling.

It was followed by an office worker alighting and being greeted by dancers, where he then got particularly entertained and smirked at a dancer demonstrating her prowess.

The MRT station feature was rounded up by dancers grooving out on the escalator, with one lipsyncing to “and I can make your hands clap,” ending with a sneaky wink that surprises the commuters on the opposite side.
