Train services on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) will start later at 8:00am on Saturdays and Sundays, from Feb 26, 2022, to May 29, 2022.
This is to facilitate additional engineering hours to support testing in preparation for the third stage of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL3) which is slated for opening later this year.

Additional Engineering Hours for Thomson-East Coast Line
Testing of Integrated Systems and Trains on Saturdays and Sundays
The joint news release between SMRT and LTA said on Friday (Feb 11) that the additional engineering hours are required “to support the testing of the integrated systems and trains” for the TEL.
“Similar arrangements were also put in place to support testing activities for TEL Stage 2,” the joint news release mentioned.
It emphasised that the late opening will also be in place during public holidays which fall on weekends, i.e. Labour Day (May 1) and Vesak Day (May 15).
Alternative Modes of Transport
The joint news release said commuters may utilise existing public bus services such as 162/M, 167, 855, 856 and 980 to travel along the existing TEL corridor.
It added commuters may use these bus services to transfer to other rail lines, such as the North-South Line (NSL) or the Circle Line (CCL).
“Commuters are advised to check for travel updates before starting their trip,” said the joint news release.
