Fun Fact Friday: HarbourFront MRT Platform A

Did you know that there is an unused platform at HarbourFront (Circle Line) station?

The Circle Line (CCL) section of HarbourFront station consists of two platforms, where Platform B is for normal passenger service trains heading clockwise towards Telok Blangah, and Platform A is currently for train withdrawal purposes. The area around Platform A has been cordoned off to prevent commuters from being misled to wait for trains at that platform.

Future Linkage with CCL6

The unused Platform A will provide linkage to the sixth stage of the Circle Line, connecting HarbourFront to Marina Bay via Keppel. Announced in the Land Transport Master Plan 2013, this linkage will help to reduce travelling times between the two stations.

What’s more, it also closes the loop for the Circle Line itself, and makes it a complete circle.

Shortened Journeys between HarbourFront and Marina Bay

Currently, if a commuter wishes to travel between HarbourFront and Marina Bay, they will need to transfer between three MRT lines and it will take them around 20 minutes to do so.

With the upcoming Circle Line Stage 6, their journey time will be shortened to about 10 minutes, without needing to transfer trains in their journey.
