The communications systems on the North-South Line, East-West Line and Bukit Panjang LRT will be renewed and modernised.
Last Thursday (Sep 2), the consortium between ST Engineering and Siemens Mobility announced in a joint statement that it has won a S$180 million contract for the renewal programme.
Siemens Mobility announced on Aug 19, 2021, the decision to utilise the Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system technology for the cross border Singapore-Johor Bahru RTS Link.
This came after the initial announcement on the nine contracts for core systems & non-core systems awarded by RTS Operations (RTSO) on May 12, 2021.
The second stage of the Thomson-East Coast Line comprising of six MRT stations began passenger service on Saturday (Aug 28).
This decommissioned Siemens C651 train will be having a new lease of life and purpose with the Singapore Police Force (SPF).
Built in the early-90s, the SPF will be utilising this 27-year-old train for training purposes.
Members of the public are given the opportunity to check out Thomson-East Coast Line 2 (TEL2) through a virtual open house from Aug 23 to 27.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Friday (Aug 13) that the open house will be held virtually due to the evolving COVID-19 situation.
The second stage of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL2) will begin operations on Aug 28, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Wednesday (Jun 30). Comprising six MRT stations, from Springleaf to Caldecott, commuters can enjoy increased connectivity and shorter travelling times with the TEL2 opening.
