3rd-gen Sengkang-Punggol LRT trains enter service on Jul 15, 2025; first two of 25 new C810D vehicles

The first two of 25 new C810D trains for the SengkangPunggol LRT (SPLRT) have entered passenger service, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and rail operator SBS Transit announced on Jul 15.

LTA said the first two Mitsubishi Crystal Mover C810D trains will be deployed to both the east and west loops of the Punggol LRT over two weekends for performance monitoring, before they are introduced into weekday operations towards the end of July.

The entry into passenger service of the new 3rd-gen C810D trains is a significant milestone for the SPLRT fleet renewal programme, said LTA.

It added that by end-2028, all 3rd-gen trains would have replaced all existing 25 one-car 1st-gen trains and half of the existing 16 two-car 2nd-gen trains, increasing the overall passenger capacity of the SPLRT to meet ridership demand.

LTA said the remaining 23 new trains, manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Mihara, Japan, will arrive progressively and enter passenger service from the third quarter of 2025, after completing comprehensive testing and commissioning works.

LTA said commuters will enjoy smoother and more comfortable rides when the new 3rd-gen trains enter passenger service.

These new trains have an improved air-conditioning system, ergonomic seating, and energy-efficient LED lighting. They also have clearer LCD passenger information displays and door-closing indicators that are more visible for better safety.

The new trains also include operational enhancements, including an onboard touch-screen diagnosis panel for quicker fault detection during testing and maintenance, and easier access to onboard equipment for staff members.

Inter-car doors are also equipped on these trains, facilitating safer and quicker passenger evacuation during emergencies.


LTA invites community partners to repurpose decommissioned LRT trains

LTA said older trains will be decommissioned as these 3rd-gen trains are progressively entering passenger service. As such, it invites community partners to repurpose the decommissioned trains as complete train cars or through the repurposing of individual parts.
