The new Punggol Coast (NE18) station on the North East Line (NEL) opened on Tuesday (Dec 10), becoming the line’s new terminus station and bringing the total number of stations on the 22-kilometre MRT line to 17.
Speaking at the launch ceremony on Tuesday morning, Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat said the opening of Punggol Coast station, which will begin passenger service at 3pm, will allow NEL to run at a higher frequency, thereby shortening waiting times during peak hours.

Punggol Coast MRT station opens for passenger service; becomes new terminus for North East Line
Situated within the heart of Punggol Digital District (PDD), the new Punggol Coast MRT station will provide better connectivity to the JTC Business Park, housing over 28,000 employees.
Over 12,000 students at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) Punggol Campus and visitors to the upcoming Punggol Coast Mall will also benefit from greater accessibility from the opening of the new NEL station.
The Punggol Coast MRT station will complement the Teck Lee LRT station on the West loop of the Punggol LRT which opened recently on Aug 15 this year. The station will be within walking distance of the Punggol Coast bus interchange.

There will be two station entrances, one within the PDD and SIT campus, and the other along New Punggol Road. The station will also house over 300 bicycle parking lots, for added convenience and to support sustainable mobility.
With the Punggol Coast station, which began construction works in 2018, over 200,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk from a NEL station. The station will shorten travelling time from Punggol North to the city centre and other parts of Singapore.
For instance, with Punggol Coast station opened, commuters travelling from Punggol North to Outram Park will take around 45 minutes on the NEL, compared to 60 minutes currently.
Punggol Coast station was designed in-house by LTA, with its construction jointly managed with JTC. The station has been awarded the Building Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum Certification for its energy-efficient design and operations.
This includes green features such as light-emitting diode (LED) lighting and a hybrid cooling system, as implemented on several stations along Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) stage 4, which opened in June this year.
