Commuters can take note of the recommended alternate travel routes when travelling at the affected stretches on the EWL from Dec 7 to Dec 10.

  • Between West/City and Tampines/Pasir Ris,
  • Between Eunos-Tanah Merah and Tampines/Pasir Ris, and
  • Between Changi Airport/Expo and Tampines/Pasir Ris.

LTA said the affected stations are expected to be crowded, and commuters are advised to plan their travel in advance as journey times may be longer.

To maintain connectivity, shuttle train services are available at these stretches.

  • 5-min intervals between Tampines (EW2) and Pasir Ris (EW1) stations,
  • 8-min intervals between Tanah Merah (CG) and Expo (CG1) stations, and
  • 11-min intervals between Expo (CG1) and Changi Airport (CG2) stations.

Passengers will be required to alight and switch trains at Expo station to travel between Tanah Merah and Changi Airport stations.

Shuttle bus service ‘Shuttle 7’, which will run between Tampines (EW2), Simei (EW3), and Tanah Merah (EW4) stations, will operate at a frequency of 3-5 minutes and will follow the same fare structure as trains.

The shuttle bus service is only recommended for travelling to/from Simei (EW3) station.

During the morning and evening peak hours of Monday and Tuesday, alternate eastbound trains towards Tanah Merah (EW4) will end their service at Paya Lebar (EW8) before turning westbound towards Tuas Link (EW33) station to maintain peak hour frequency.

Closure is required to connect tracks to the new East Coast Integrated Depot

The adjustment to train services from Dec 7 to Dec 10 is part of preparatory works for the opening of the new ECID in 2026. Due to “safety reasons”, there will be no train service at the affected segment during the period.

LTA said the closure of the affected stretch between Tanah Merah and Tampines stations will also have an impact on adjacent stations of the EWL.

“Where possible, commuters passing through the affected EWL stations are strongly encouraged to consider alternative routes via the Downtown Line and other MRT lines, as this may result in shorter travel times,” LTA said.
