The Sentosa Express monorail service connecting mainland Singapore and Sentosa Island is now operated by transport operator SMRT’s business arm, Strides.

SMRT said in a LinkedIn announcement on Sunday (Sep 1) that it has officially taken over as the operator for the monorail line, following its award of contract in September last year.

In September last year, transport operator SMRT announced that its business arm, Strides, was awarded a long-term contract for the operations, maintenance, and service excellence of the Sentosa Express monorail line.

Currently, rail operator SMRT Trains manages and operates several train lines across Singapore’s public transport network — North-South Line (NSL), East-West Line (EWL), Circle Line (CCL), Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), and the Bukit Panjang LRT.

The 12-year contract, with the option to extend four years, comprises the provision of end-to-end operations & maintenance (O&M), engineering services, and solutions — including long-term overhaul, engineering capabilities, and service excellence.

SMRT announced in a LinkedIn post on Sunday that Strides has officially started operating the Sentosa Express monorail line with the Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC).

The Sentosa Express monorail line opened in 2007 and consists of four stations — VivoCity, Resorts World, Imbiah, and Beach — with a fleet of seven Hitachi small-type monorail trains.
