You will soon be able to spend the night in a decommissioned SMRT train carriage as local startup Tiny Pod is developing Singapore’s first-ever co-living train hotel, a hospitality pilot concept that is supported by JTC Corporation (JTC).

It is not mentioned whether the hotel will be using SMRT’s 1st-gen C151 trains, 2nd-gen C651 trains, or 3rd-gen C751B trains, which had served the North-South, East-West MRT lines.

Tiny Pod’s co-living train hotel, set to open near Blk 69 Ayer Rajah Crescent in September 2024, will feature eight bedrooms, each equipped with an attached bathroom.

This project is an extension of the startup’s pop-up shipping container hotel at LaunchPad @ one-north, which opened in 2020.

To create an immersive experience for guests, the train’s ‘driver cab’ will feature liquid-crystal display (LCD) panels that depict real-life tunnel footage from the train.

Tiny Pod said it recognises the value of being in an ecosystem of like-minded startups within LaunchPad @ one-north.

As such, it has leveraged this opportunity to partner with local startup Igloohome for the hotel’s smart lock system to enhance the co-living train.

A public recreational green space will also be developed adjacent to the co-living train hotel, integrated with food and beverage vending machines and bicycle racks.

This recreational green space will also be featuring seats from decommissioned MRT trains, repurposed as outdoor public benches.

Tiny Pod’s co-living train hotel comes after The Bus Collective, a resort hotel with rooms made from retired SBS Transit public buses that opened in November 2023.

Renovation works for the co-living train hotel commenced in March 2024, and it is anticipated to be operational in September 2024.
