In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Total Defence in Singapore, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), with support of the Land Transport Authority (LTA), will be organising a Civil Defence (CD) Shelter Open House at three MRT stations on Feb 23, 2024.
The open house is part of the country’s inaugural Exercise SG Ready, which is held islandwide from Feb 15 to 29 and aims to increase Singaporeans’ readiness for crises and disruptions.

Exercise SG Ready: Civil Defence Shelter Open House
CD Shelter Open House Organised at Three MRT Stations
As part of Exercise SG Ready, SCDF will be organising a CD Shelter Open House at three MRT stations on Feb 23, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
Commonly referred to as “bomb shelters,” the CD Shelter or “public shelters” are places for civilians to take refuge and be protected during wartime emergencies.
According to SCDF, there are currently 54 underground MRT stations which are hardened to function as public shelters and provide protection for up to 19,000 people, depending on the size of the area.
The CD Shelter Open House will be held at the CC 8 Dakota, NE 10 Potong Pasir and DT 8 Tan Kah Kee MRT stations — train services will continue to operate as usual.
Visitors to the open house will learn essential lifesaving skills from SCDF personnel and learn about the protective features of MRT CD Shelters, the sheltering procedures and emergency preparedness.
Members of Public Can Walk In, Booking Is Required for Larger Groups
The public can walk in at any of the three MRT stations from 10:00am onwards to participate in the CD Shelter Open House without any booking registration.
However, larger groups of 20 persons or more will require reservations through the online booking system; SCDF said the 30-minute last tour of the day will commence at 3:30pm.
Interested participants can refer to the online infographic released by SCDF at https://go.gov.sg/cdshelteropenhouse for more information.
