Commuters travelling between seven MRT stations on the Circle Line (CCL) in June and July are advised to expect longer travel times for the facilitation of additional maintenance works along a tunnel segment, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Wednesday (May 24).

The additional maintenance works on the tunnel segment, which “has been subject to greater pressure”, will affect seven CCL stations, namely Dhoby Ghaut, Bras Basah, Esplanade, Promenade, Nicoll Highway, Marina Bay and Bayfront stations.

From Jun 11 to Jul 20, train services at the seven CCL stations will operate using one platform from 9pm daily, except on Jun 16, 17, 18, 24, 28 & 29, and on Jul 1, 2, 7, 8, 14, 15 & 16.

“This will result in longer headways, and commuters will experience additional travel times of up to 30 minutes,” said LTA.

CCL trains in the affected sector will be running shuttle services, where Shuttle Service A — between Dhoby Ghaut and Promenade stations — runs at 15-minute intervals, and Shuttle Service B — between Marina Bay and Stadium stations — runs at 20-minute intervals.

Small CCL tunnel segment “has been subject to greater pressure”

LTA said routine inspections had uncovered that a small segment of the CCL tunnel between Promenade and Nicoll Highway stations “has been subject to greater pressure”.

It added that it has “assessed that this poses no safety risks to CCL train operations” and will “carry out precautionary maintenance and strengthening works including installation of steel supports to the tunnel rings to ensure the long-term integrity of the tunnel”.

In response to queries by Channel NewsAsia on Wednesday, an LTA spokesperson said that the increased pressure on CCL tunnels was “picked up during its tunnel monitoring and inspection regime”.

Commuters are advised to plan their journeys ahead of time and to use other train lines or bus services to minimise their inconvenience.

They may also refer to LTA’s MyTransport.SG mobile application and LTA’s and SMRT’s social media platforms for more information.

Station staff will be deployed at the affected stations to render assistance.
