Japanese construction firm Penta Ocean Construction Co., Ltd. has been awarded a civil contract valued at around $526 million for the design and construction of Bright Hill MRT station for the CRL.

“Penta Ocean has a strong track record of undertaking infrastructure, building and tunnelling projects in Singapore,” said the LTA.

It added that the company was previously involved in the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) section for the Bright Hill MRT station.

The company is currently constructing the station, tunnels and the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Building for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) and a tunnel between Suffolk Walk and Novena Rise for the North-South Corridor.

Close monitoring will be carried out due to abrasive ground conditions

LTA mentioned that the Bright Hill MRT station is located along Sin Ming Avenue, where the ground comprises predominantly Bukit Timah Granite.

This abrasive nature of ground conditions is expected to “cause some wear to the cutting equipment on the tunnel boring machines”.

In order to ensure optimal equipment performance, close monitoring will be carried out during the tunnel boring process.

MRT station will be connected to a new Transit Priority Corridor in 2029

The upcoming Bright Hill MRT station for the CRL will also be connected to a new Transit Priority Corridor (TPC) along Sin Ming Avenue.

LTA said the TPC will “give commuters more accessibility options via bus and active mobility travel modes.”

When completed in 2029, residents in the Sin Ming area will have “more access options to Bright Hill MRT station and recreational spaces such as Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.”

“Educational institutions such as Ai Tong School and Eunoia Junior College will also be within convenient reach by public transport and active mobility modes,” added the LTA.

The first phase of the Cross Island Line (CRL1), which comprises 12 stations, will span from Aviation Park to Bright Hill. LTA mentioned that the CRL1 will benefit over 100,000 households, serving residential and industrial areas along regions of Tampines, Pasir Ris, Hougang and Ang Mo Kio.

Commuters can expect the CRL1 to reduce travelling times from Bright Hill to Hougang, from 40 minutes to 20 minutes. LTA also estimated that it would take 30 minutes to travel from Bright Hill to Pasir Ris East, from the 80 minutes travelling time of today.

The CRL would be Singapore’s eighth MRT line, connecting the country’s major hubs such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi. When fully completed, it will serve existing and future developments in the eastern, north-eastern and western corridors.
