In a Facebook post by SMRT on Monday (Dec 13), the passenger lift at Novena MRT station had broken down.

The lift breakdown led to a queue formed by elderly commuters at the train platform, many of whom were likely to be headed for their medical appointments at the nearby Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Station Manager Noticed Lift Breakdown

In the early morning of Dec 13, 2021, Station Manager (SM) Anis was doing his third shift where he had happened to encounter the faulty lift, presumably during his routine checks around the station.

He immediately notified the maintenance team, and they arrived shortly to diagnose and troubleshoot the issue.

SM Anis then briefed SM Richard, who was leading the morning shift.

Following that, SM Richard deployed a team of four crew members to assist the commuters while the faulty lift underwent rectification.

SM Fahshan and Assistant Station Manager (ASM) Humaidy operated the wheelchair lift along the stairs whilst ASM Hasrifah and Service Ambassador (SA) Sabariah managed the crowd and assisted the elderly commuters up the stairs.

Maintenance Team Rectified the Faulty Lift

The maintenance team swiftly resolved the issue and the passenger lift went back in service just before noon struck.

Positive Reactions From Netizens

Many netizens went online to give their appreciation and commendation to the station crew who were involved.
