Commuters can look forward to receiving real-time information on lift availability at SMRT train stations through the rail operator’s mobile app.
This serves as an additional way for commuters to receive official information about lift availability at MRT stations, in addition to the MyTransport.SG mobile app by the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
Useful Feature for Journey Planning
SMRT announced on Tuesday (May 4) in a Facebook post that the lift availability feature will enhance the inclusive service delivery for commuters.
The rail operator added that commuters who require to use the lifts at train stations can benefit from this new app feature by being able to plan their journeys ahead of time, before going to stations with lifts not available for usage.
Lift Upgrading Works at Orchard MRT Station
In addition to the new lift availability feature, SMRT announced earlier this year (Feb 15) upgrading works for the lift at Orchard MRT station, in preparation for the third stage of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL3).
They mentioned that upgrading works will commence from 22 Feb 2021 to the third quarter of 2022. Therefore, a temporary priority lift has been set up, operating at a limited capacity and at restricted timings from 6:00am to 11:45pm daily.
Trainspotters have observed that trains plying the North-South Line (NSL) are equipped with in-train announcements, pre-empting commuters about the lift upgrading works before arrival at Orchard station.
