All three MRT stations on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) will start later and end earlier to facilitate testing in preparation for the second stage of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL2).
The TEL2 slated for opening in the third quarter this year.
Early Closure & Late Opening between Woodlands North and Woodlands South
Train service between Woodlands North MRT station and Woodlands South MRT station on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) will start later at 6:30am and end earlier at 9pm from 24 May to 8 August 2021.
Alternative Travel Arrangements
Shuttle Bus Services will not be provided during the closure.
Commuters may use existing public bus services 169, 856 and 901/M to travel within the vicinity of Woodlands and to the North-South Line (NSL) at Woodlands MRT station to continue their travel on the rail network.
Preparation for Thomson-East Coast Line Stage 2
SMRT announced in a press release on Friday (May 21) that the additional engineering hours “will be used to continue testing of the integrated systems and trains in preparation for the opening of Stage 2 of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL2).”
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) have completed rigorous testing of the TEL2 and have handed over stations and operations to SMRT in April. LTA mentioned that following the handover, “SMRT will conduct its tests to validate the operational readiness of TEL2 systems and familiarise its staff with TEL2 operations.”
The Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) is the fourth MRT line to be operated by rail operator SMRT, and is slated for opening in the third quarter this year.
