Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded Alstom Transport the contract for building and design of these 6 trains in Apr 2018, under modified contract terms. These trains are manufactured and assembled at Alstom’s manufacturing facility in Barcelona, Spain.

These trains are equipped with predictive condition monitoring systems to enable data gathering and telemetry from on board equipment. This would allow the operator to actively monitor the train’s health, and to perform predictive maintenance when necessary.

With the addition of these 6 trains, the NEL fleet would be expanded by 14% from 43 to 49 trains and will help to cater for additional capacity when the NELe begin operations in 2024.
