MRT Travel Guide – Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix 2024

Overview of this Article

Using the MRT to Travel from Changi Airport to the City

The Changi Airport (CG2) station is linked to the airport’s three main terminals (1/2/3). This is a separate transportation mode from the inter-terminal Changi Airport Skytrain system.

To get to the City, commuters may take a train to Tanah Merah (CG/EW4) station, then alight and transfer to the westbound train towards Tuas Link (EW33) station.

Take note of the in-train announcements and information systems, which will guide you to the correct platform to board the City-bound train.

Public Transport Fares & MRT Ticketing Information

Singapore’s public transport uses the distance-based fare calculation system, which charges you according to the total distance travelled in your journey.

Commuters can use the two most common ways to pay for public transport fares: the unlimited Singapore Tourist Pass or a stored-value travel card, like the EZ-Link card.

You may also use SimplyGo, an electronic mode of payment by tapping in to pay for your public transport fares. Tap using a physical Visa/Mastercard contactless credit/debit card or through a mobile wallet such as Apple Pay, Fitbit Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay.

Download the SimplyGo mobile application on your iOS or Android device to view your travel transaction history, transit fares incurred and other card-related ticketing needs.

NOTE: Always use the same contactless card, mobile wallet, or travel card to tap in and out of the public transport network. You will be charged for two full incomplete journeys if you use a mix of payment methods at the point of entry or exit.

Nearest MRT Station to Food Centres Around the City

Being a multi-racial, multi-lingual and multi-religious society, Singapore has diverse foods with endless options.

It is common to have a meal at a hawker food centre in Singapore, and it is also great that various MRT stations are conveniently located near these food centres!

During the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix, trackside engineers from the Mercedes-AMG F1 Team even went to the Newton Food Centre for some curry as a good luck “winning tradition”.

Please refer to the official Food & Beverage listing for F&B options within the circuit park.

Extension to MRT Train Service Operating Hours

The train service operating hours have been extended for the three-day Singapore Grand Prix race weekend from Sep 20 to Sep 22, 2024.

We advise commuters to be at the station at least 15 to 20 minutes before the last train departs for additional leeway due to increased passenger traffic and travel demand.

Please note that all Singapore MRT trains are fully automated and that the last trains will depart strictly according to schedule.
