Comprising 11 new MRT stations, the third stage of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) began passenger service on Sunday (Nov 13).

Four stations along the TEL stage 3 (TEL3) – Stevens, Orchard, Outram Park and Marina Bay – are interchange stations, connecting commuters on the TEL to all existing MRT lines.

New interchanges on TEL3 “enhance the resilience” of the rail network

Speaking at Orchard MRT station on Friday (Nov 11) for the TEL3 Opening Event, Transport Minister S Iswaran said in his speech that the rail network “is the backbone of our public transport system” and “we have made it a priority to design and build a well-connected and resilient rail network”.

“TEL3 is yet another step towards this goal, as it connects with every other MRT line,” said Mr Iswaran.

Outram Park and Marina Bay MRT stations become triple-line interchange stations, while Stevens and Orchard become double-line interchange stations with TEL3.

“More interchanges and routing options for journeys help to spread the load across more lines, and enhances the resilience of our network.”
