The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has commended three SMRT Trains staff – presenting the Community Partnership Award to two station managers and the Public Spiritedness Award to an off-duty senior engineer on Tuesday (Oct 11).

Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Masagoes Idris Hussain, Commander of Public Transport Security Command (TransCom), expressed his appreciation to the award recipients for making the public land transport network a safer and more secure place to commute.

In the first incident on Jul 31, 2022, Senior Station Manager (SSM) Mohamad Tahar Bin Manaf was commended by the Police for his ability to identify a man who had committed an outrage of modesty on a train through information given by SMRT’s Operations Control Centre (OCC).

SSM Tahar detained the man and contacted the Police for assistance. The man was subsequently arrested.

In the second incident on Aug 26, 2022, Station Manager (SM) Izhar Bin Mohamed Ibrahim and Transit Security Officer (TSO) Tan Kian Ann were commended by the Police for their ability to identify a man who had committed voyeurism at Clementi MRT station.

SM Izhar and TSO Tan worked together to detain the man until the Police arrived.

Public Spiritedness Award

On Aug 14, 2022, Senior Engineer Pandiyan Sethuprivan, also a Riders-on-Watch volunteer of the Community Watch Scheme (CWS), saw a male commuter suffering from fits on a train.

Senior Engineer Pandiyan, who was not on duty at the time, stepped forward to render immediate assistance and tended to the unwell commuter at Bugis MRT station until the ambulance arrived.
