The theme for this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) is “Together, Our Singapore Spirit”.
It is accompanied with the theme song “The Road Ahead” written and composed by Linying and Evan Low, under the direction and supervision of Music Director, Dr. Sydney Tan.
Accompanying Music Video for “The Road Ahead”
Directed by Huang Junxiang and Jerrold Chong, this year’s NDP Music Video is particularly special as it is the first-ever to blend live-action and animation.
The accompanying music video is also performed by the four singers, Linying, Sezairi Sezali, Shye-Anne Brown and Shabir.
In a behind the scenes video published, director Jerrold Chong mentioned that the mixed-media approach to this year’s music video “has really added a very special distinction.”
“It starts off from a very playful imaginative line drawings that bring to life characters from the past and people who have made important contributions to Singapore,” he added.

Animator Andre Quek said that he had taken a lot of reference to depict a child exploring and looking at the world for the segment ‘Sparks of Imagination’ in the music video.
“I took a lot of reference to it, just looking at them when they play at the playground and having to let go of themselves when they explore the world,” he described his interpretation to animate children exploring the world on an MRT train [shown above].
Director Jerrold Chong said that it is a build-up to a “climatic chorus of different voices” as the song comes to an end.
“We wanted to end with a cyclical structure. So here, you have a magical bus that comes in, triple-decker, really inviting people from all walks of life to join us on this journey ahead.”
