Mask-wearing on public transport will no longer be mandatory from Monday (Feb 13), when the country lowers its disease outbreak advisory to the lowest level, from yellow to green.

This comes after the stable situation of COVID-19 in recent months, even with the increased travel over the year-end holidays, as noted by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Thursday.

The Health Ministry said in a press release on Thursday that it will step down several measures from Feb 13, 2023, thus establishing a new endemic COVID-19 norm in Singapore.

It includes the removal of mandatory mask-wearing on public transport – including the MRT and LRT network – such that it will no longer be required under the COVID-19 regulations.

The elderly and immunocompromised, including those with COVID-19 or acute respiratory infection (ARI) symptoms, are still encouraged to continue mask-wearing while travelling.

Public transport aside, MOH will continue requiring mask-wearing for visitors, staff and patients in healthcare and residential care settings, for better protection against infections.
