Track Improvement Works on the East-West Line

CG 2 Changi Airport MRT station

SMRT said that track improvement works will take place in phases, which will involve replacing parts of the existing concrete trackbed at a diamond track crossing.

The two phases include single platform operations at Changi Airport MRT station and a “train shuttle service” between Tanah Merah and Changi Airport MRT stations.

The rail operator said that works are expected to complete by mid-August 2022.

#1 Single Platform Operations at Changi Airport MRT station

A single platform will only be operative at Changi Airport MRT station, between mid-April and early July.

“Regular train service will continue to be in operation with no increase in waiting time,” the rail operator mentioned.

Single platform operations were also enforced last year, where tracks had to be removed near Marina Bay MRT station on the Circle Line (CCL).

#2 Train Shuttle Service between Tanah Merah & Changi Airport MRT stations

There will be a “train shuttle service” operating between Tanah Merah and Changi Airport MRT stations from early July to mid-August 2022.

SMRT said that commuters can expect an additional waiting time of up to two minutes between 7:30pm to 10:30pm within the affected sector.

According to the SMRT Connect mobile application that shows live train arrival timings, the train service frequency during normal operations within the affected sector is around nine to 12 minutes.

“Commuters travelling along the stretch are advised to plan their journeys in advance, and factor in additional train travelling time,” the rail operator said.

It added that SMRT staff will also be deployed at the affected MRT stations to assist commuters during the final phase of track improvement works.
