LTA awarded Contract 810D in February 2022, which initially includes the supply of 17 new two-car trains, to the consortium led by Mitsubishi Corporation, before a follow-up order in May 2023 for an additional eight two-car trains, totalling 25 new two-car trains for SPLRT.

The contract also includes the provision of the signalling system, guideway system, and depot equipment for the Sengkang LRT depot expansion.

When the new C810D trains enter passenger service, commuters can look forward to energy-efficient LED lighting, door closing indicators for better safety, better seats for greater comfort and support, and an improved air-conditioning system for quieter and cooler journeys.

The new 3rd-gen C810D trains are currently undergoing testing and commissioning works before entering passenger service in the third quarter (Q3) of 2025. The remaining 23 new trains will progressively be delivered to Singapore.

The new 3rd-gen C810D trains will use Mitsubishi’s Crystal Mover series of light rail vehicles, similar to their predecessors on the SPLRT but in a permanent two-car configuration. The Changi Airport Skytrain also uses the Mitsubishi Crystal Mover.

LTA told The Straits Times (ST) in November 2024 that the SPLRT fleet now comprises 16 two-car trains and 25 one-car trains.

ST reported: “The earlier order of 17 two-car trains will replace the existing 25 one-car trains, while the later order of eight two-car trains will replace half of the existing 16 two-car trains. As a result, the SPLRT network will eventually have a fleet of 33 two-car trains.”

According to checks publicly available to SGTrains on the government’s procurement portal, LTA called a tender for Contract 8137 for the Disposal of Light Rail Vehicles in January this year. The tender closed on Feb 28, pending an award.
