Train services across all MRT stations on the Circle Line (CCL) will end earlier at 11:00pm every Sunday to Wednesday between Jun 15 and Jul 30, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and rail operator SMRT said in a joint statement on May 22.

The joint statement said the early closure of the CCL every Sunday to Wednesday is needed to prepare for the opening of CCL stage 6 (CCL6) in the first half of 2026. “Services on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays will remain unchanged,” it added.
Stage 6 consists of three new MRT stations – Keppel (CC30), Cantonment (CC31), and Prince Edward Road (CC32) – which will close the loop of the CCL between the existing HarbourFront and Marina Bay stations.

Elaborating on the early closure, the joint statement said LTA and SMRT will carry out a series of works on the existing CCL to renew its Integrated Supervisory Control System (ISCS), adding that this is to “ensure system compatibility with the new stretch of the CCL”.
The ISCS of a modern railway system monitors and manages various systems, including power supply, communications, and station facilities. It also supports communications between stations, control centres, and trains.
LTA and SMRT said the ISCS currently used on the CCL has been in use since the line began operations in 2009 and “needs to be renewed to ensure it is compatible with the new CCL6 system”.
The last time CCL had a line extension was in January 2012, with the CCL extension (CCLe), which added two new stations between Promenade and Marina Bay stations.
The CCL early closures between Jun 15 and Jul 30 “are required to provide longer blocks of engineering hours necessary for testing and commissioning of the new servers and equipment to be carried out safely and rigorously”, said the joint statement.
LTA and SMRT advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and rely on alternative routes via other MRT lines and bus services to reach their destinations.
They can also refer to LTA’s MyTransport.SG mobile app and the social media platforms of LTA and SMRT for more details.
SMRT will be putting up informational posters at all CCL stations and stations that interchange with the CCL to alert commuters of the service adjustments. MRT station staff will also be deployed at affected stations to assist during the service adjustment period.
The joint statement mentioned that further service adjustments “will be needed to complete systems integration testing across the entire CCL, and ensure that the CCL6 stretch is well integrated with the existing CCL”.
At present, LTA and SMRT said they plan to tentatively carry out these adjustments from September to December 2025. More details will be provided closer to the date.
The joint statement said: “These temporary service adjustments are necessary as we prepare for the opening of CCL6, so that there is sufficient time to conduct thorough and rigorous testing to ensure the safety of our commuters.
“These works will bring us closer to the completion of the CCL6 extension, which will enhance connectivity, shorten travel times, and bring greater convenience to our commuters.”
Contract 830G (C830G), which includes the supply of the ISCS for CCL6 and Kim Chuan Depot Extension (KCDE), was awarded to ST Engineering Electronics Ltd. in Q4 2017.
