In an interview with the media on Tuesday, Minister for Transport Chee Hong Tat said Hume MRT station on the DTL will open for passenger service in the second quarter of 2025.

When Hume station opens, it will serve more than 20,000 residents in the area between Hillview and Beauty World stations.

Construction works for Hume MRT station, an in-fill station with a shell structure built in 2015, only began in 2021 after years of lobbying.

Mr Chee also said the Circle Line Stage 6 (CCL6), which closes the loop between HarbourFront and Marina Bay stations, will open in the first half of 2026.

CCL6 comprises three new underground stations: Keppel (CC30), Cantonment (CC31), and Prince Edward Road (CC32) stations.

The 4-kilometre extension was announced in 2015 and was initially slated to be open for passenger service in 2025. It was pushed back by a year to 2026 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the same year, the 2.2-kilometre extension on the DTL stage 3 (DTL3e), linking the Expo (DT35) station to the upcoming Xilin (DT36) and Sungei Bedok (DT37) stations, will be operational in the second half of 2026.

The Thomson-East Coast Line Stage 5 (TEL5), which comprises Bedok South (TE30) and Sungei Bedok (TE31) stations, will also open in the second half of 2026. Sungei Bedok station will interchange with the DTL and TEL.

Speaking to The Straits Times (ST), Mr Chee said the DTL3e had multiple hold-ups, most recently due to construction challenges related to tunnelling near critical infrastructure. TEL5 also faced similar delays.

Mr Chee told ST that “the Government will press on with its other rail projects”, including the Jurong Region Line (JRL) and Cross Island Line (CRL), which will open for passenger service in 2027 and 2030, respectively.
