In a Facebook post on Saturday, LTA said the first batch of the new two-car SPLRT trains “has just arrived on our shores today” and that the remaining train cars are progressively “making their way” to Singapore.

These C810D trains are part of the fleet of 25 new trains to cater to the “increased ridership demand in Sengkang and Punggol.” All train cars will be transported to Sengkang LRT depot for thorough testing and commissioning works.

The new 3rd-gen C810D trains, which will eventually replace the existing 1st-gen C810 trains, are expected to enter passenger service in Q3 2025, said LTA.

In February 2022, LTA awarded the consortium of Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engineering, Ltd, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. the contract valued at around $439 million for the supply of 17 new two-car LRT trains for the SPLRT.

The contract also includes the provision of the signalling system, guideway system, and depot equipment for the Sengkang LRT depot expansion.

LTA made a follow-up order to the Japanese supplier in May 2023 for an additional eight two-car LRT trains, valued at around $87 million, bringing the total to 25 new LRT trains.

Earlier this month, the Changi Airport Group (CAG) announced it will add seven new cars to its Changi Airport Skytrain fleet, which also uses the Crystal Mover series by Mitsubishi, as part of improving its services and existing infrastructure in an investment over the next six years.
