Sengkang LRT station platform enhancements begin operations; new stopping positions for LRT trains

Sengkang LRT station platform enhancements to begin operations on Sep 30, 2024

From Sunday (Sep 29), residents of Sengkang can look forward to quicker boarding and alighting at Sengkang (STC) station on the Sengkang LRT as platform enhancements for both East and West loops have commenced operations.

Plans to improve commuter flow at the station, amongst other upgrades to the Sengkang-Punggol LRT, were announced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in December last year.

In a Facebook post, rail operator SBS Transit said new train stopping locations at the Sengkang LRT station have started operations on Sunday, a day earlier than initially planned.

The platform enhancement works at Sengkang LRT station include dedicated stopping locations for each of the four routes serving the station.

“New signs and queue markings, as well as a new tactile guiding system, will also be implemented to facilitate boarding and alighting,” LTA said in March.

Previously, commuters queueing for a West Loop train at platform 1 or 2 will share the same platform space — demarcated through coloured lines on the floor — with other commuters queueing for an East Loop train.

This meant commuters were required to check the overhead signs being lit or the light-emitting diode (LED) displays to know which loop the arriving train was operating on.

With the enhancements now operational, each platform will have two stopping positions for each loop, rather than sharing one stopping position for both loops.
